Croquet at the Cathedral

Croquet …Okay! At St Michael’s Cathedral!

A fierce but friendly croquet match was held Tuesday September 14, 2021 at St Michael and All Angels Cathedral. Sixteen from the Cathedral family turned out for this exciting event. An extremely challenging course was set up on the grassy area in front of St Michael’s Cathedral. Some brave members played while others cheered on the cut throat competitors. No blood was shed!

Master Referee and Instructor and Croquet Expert Extraordinaire Bob Hayes supplied the official croquet set and did a ‘brilliant’ job keeping competitors under control and pointed in the right direction around the circuit. The cheering section did a spectacular job encouraging all those who were gutsy enough to demonstrate their skills. Penalties were flying left and right if competitors argued with the ref or stepped out of line. Tuesday coffee member Ron handily won the game long before anyone else and got to sit down partake of the refreshments and watch the rest of the competitors successfully complete the course! New cathedral member Heather won the ‘silver plated’ trophy as the finalist! Michael Kalmuk (tournament coordinator) sported a beautifully creative hat for the occasion complete with croquet mallets and balls.

Another tournament will be held in October. Get out those mallets and practise! Also Reserve your seats as social distancing makes seating limited.

A great time was had by all!
